Cal
CalCalCalCalCalCal
  • American Staffordshire Terrier, Mixed
  • Up-to-date with routine shots

Cal came to us as a stray and sadly was never claimed. He is a little shy and cautious at first with strangers but he is a big ol love. He is about 2 years old and 60 pounds. Since he came in as a stray we don't know anything about him besides what we are learning from him day to day. He loves to play fetch. He brings the ball back and drops it but sometimes wants to not give it back. He played right next to a recently fixed male adult pitbull and did phase him at all. No reaction other than he noticed he was there. He does like to jump up and try to get the ball before you throw it but we are working on his manners. We have not tried him with other dogs, cats or kids as of yet. We will be evaluating him more this week and will update his profile. He is not quite ready to go yet as he needs to be scheduled to be fixed but a $25 hold fee can hold him until he is ready to go and that fee goes towards his adoption fee. Please research POSITIVE training techniques before applying for adoption. Your application answers matter very much to us. Applications are found here: https://threerivershs.org/adoption-app-2/ The adoption fee of $250 includes spay/neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, and an engraved ID tag. Gamora
Gamora
  • Mixed Breed, Mixed
  • Up-to-date with routine shots

Gamora came to us as a owner surrender when the room mates dog did not get along with her. She is very scared and timid right now. Unfortunately we did not get a lot of info from the owner so what we know we are just finding out by observing her. She has not been tested with other dogs, cats or kids yet. She is about a year old and 40 pounds. We are not sure yet of her breed. She is not house broke so we recommend crate training and using positive reinforcement to help her learn where its ok to go to the bathroom. She is not crate trained so she will need to gradually be introduced to the crate as well. Dogs do really well learning to love their crate as a safe place to go. She likes to play ball, tug, and with squeaky and plush toys. She has no problems riding in a car and she is working on her leash walking. Toast came in as a stray and sadly was never claimed. She is a submissive and sweet girl, loves affection and treats, but also displays behaviors very typical to the cattle dog breed. Kobe came in as an owner surrender after having to move and could not keep him. He is a big beautiful boy! He has lived with kids ages 4-17 and several adults and does well with them. He is housebroken. He is 2 years old and 85 pounds. Friendly to everyone including cats and dogs but It does take some so we always suggest cautious meet and greets. He was reliable in the house while left alone. He likes to play ball and with squeeky toys and loves to play fetch, tug, chase and wrestling. He knows sit, stay, lay down, gentle (when giving food/treats) and easy. Is good on a leash but does tend to pull if on a harness. He loves to go for short walks and he could use a refresher course on not pulling. He is very loving and will hug you if sleeping or laying next to you. DixieDixieDixieDixieDixie
  • German Shorthaired Pointer, Coonhound, Mixed
  • Spayed/Neutered
  • Up-to-date with routine shots
  • Prefers home without cats

Dixie came in as an owner surrender as they wanted to get chickens and they raised and trained her to be a pig hunting dog and they were afraid she would kill the chickens so she was surrendered to us with Dakota. She is shy but very sweet. It only takes a few mins for her to warm up to you. We don't recommend livestock since she was bred and trained to be a hunting dog. She has never lived in a home so she is not housebroken. At 7 years old, she has lots and lots of energy and we wouldn't call her a social butterfly, she tends to be rather aloof and just wants to check out her environment for interesting things. She is a Pointer/Coonhound mix so she'd probably love to do some nosework. She pulls like the dickens on leash, so we recommend a harness. It was difficult to get good photos of her as she didn't want to sit for the photo session. Dixie is a bit overwhelmed at all the chaos of a shelter and is much more attentive and affectionate when she is not distracted. Please research the Malinois, German Shepherd, and Husky breeds, because they are not for every dog owner, especially for a first time pet. He is large and does occasionally jump up. He will require a good fence and an experienced owner. He does well with other dogs and is a submissive boy who sends all the right communication to them. He knows sits, stay, come, and heel. Jules came in as a stray with her brother Obie. Initially a bit shy but sweet and affectionate after a short meeting period. She was very skinny when she came in and has been gaining weight and looking much better. She is getting much more confident and would make someone a nice family pup. We have paired her up with a young male dog and they are now the best of friends and it has brought both of them out of their shell! She is treat motivated, so that is a great way to help her learn wonderful behaviors. Come on down and meet her. She is all ready to go to her new forever home! Bobby came in as a stray with his friend Ricky and sadly they were never claimed. Bobby is a bit of a "project" dog in that he is uber stressed here at the shelter. It is hard to see the dog he can be or the dog within as all the chaos here isnt showing us the best behaviors, although he never shows aggression. With those he knows, he can be quite jumpy and demanding of attention and petting but sometimes in a quiet calm location, he settles nicely and enjoys calm petting. The trainer does not recommend a home with young children, perhaps he can be around dog savvy older kids. He will take treats, and when he is calm he will sit on cue. He has been with other dogs, and if he could learn good manners from a balanced female dog, that would be the best. Definitely not a "plug in and play" dog! He also would need a secured fenced yard because he is athletic and bold. Please research POSITIVE training techniques before applying for adoption. Your application answers matter very much to us. Ryder came in with his best friend Han Solo. The owner could no longer care for them. He is a little over weight at the moment but he loves to play non the less. He is about 5 years old and currently 80 pounds. He is a chow hound and if you've got treats, you have his undivided attention. When first meeting Ryder, he might initially bark, but its more for attention or a yummy snack than anything else. He does well with most other dogs, but doesn't necessarily want to play. He'd rather play with his human, and sometimes he plays rather rough! Maybe small children wont be a great fit, but it also depends on the child. The trainer thinks he will definitely snatch food from the babe! He is super affectionate and loves petting and attention. He does jump up to give hugs, but thats not always the most appropriate doggy behavior! Please research POSITIVE training techniques before applying for adoption. Matter of fact, he is very sweet, affectionate, and loves to play!. He is very loving towards the kennel techs and he does love training time and treats. He loves playtime with other dogs . Just watch that tail of his wag when he's with someone he trusts!. He is about 60 pounds and little over 2 years old. Maggie came to us originally with another dog. She is a very shy girl with strangers but was sweet, loving, and well mannered in her previous home. PUPDATE: Poor Onyx has had his share of issues at several homes he has been in over the last several months. Being in a kennel instead of a loving home is taking its toll on him and sadly turning him into a different dog. He needs love and leadership from a strong alpha. At his original home he was mostly outdoors with access to a doggie door which we highly recommend for his next home. He needs to be worked on not marking in the house, which can be done with consistency and patience. He can be rough playing so a large female dog his size and maybe a little more dominate would be the best for him or it would be even better if he was the only dog in the home. In a new area he needs to be on a leash until he is comfortable in his area. A nice big safe area would be great for this boy. He is not a bad dog, he just needs a leader and consistency. And we recommend no dog parks for now until he is established in his new home. He came from a large family including young children. He is not aggressive, even around food. He does fine with unfamilar dogs but we recommend no small dogs. Why is is he here at our shelter? He made a mistake and injured a neighbors calf chasing it while the neighbors dog was herding the cattle. He was so loved by his family at his last home and they are just heartbroken to bring him here. He is an amazing family dog and anyone will be lucky to have him in their home. Onyx is 4 years young and 92 pounds of love and sweetness. . Please research POSITIVE training techniques before applying to adopt. Gilligan is still in Foster and this is what his foster mom has to say- Handsome, athletic, playful, sweet young dogs. Approximately 1 year old. Bonded brothers. Gilligan seems to enjoy watching TV, especially nature shows. Skipper likes a soft bed and a soft toy. Did I say sweet? Both dogs have a sweet nature. They get along well with my two dogs (border collie/aussie cross and lab/shepherd/collie mix). They can play in a group or just lounge around the house. They come when called (most of the time), walk on a leash (but get nervous in tight spaces), are learning to ride in the car. They both sit for treats and take treats gently. Have good dining manners. They are used to the noise of farm equipment, mowers, weed eaters, and traffic. Household noises do not bother them. They have good manners, They do not jump up on furniture or people. They like their crate and spend all unsupervised time in the house in the crate. They do not shed much. They enjoy romping and playing in their turn out pasture. The down side? These dogs came to the shelter afraid of everything and everyone. They have been in foster care for over six months. Even though they were VERY fearful, they never showed any aggression. They have come a long way, but are still afraid of new people and new situations. They are just beginning to be willing to approach a new person. Gilligan is the more outgoing, but still very cautious. They are more comfortable with a female, but are getting better with males. They will need a loving compassionate person who is willing to give them time to trust. Please research POSITIVE training techniques before applying to adopt. Skipper and Gilligan came to us as very terrified puppies at about 3 months old. Both boys have been in a loving, wonderful, and patient foster home that has been working with them non stop to try and socialize them. They are really coming around but need a lot of patience and a low-traffic, home. They are about 9 months now and still very scared of almost everything but they have made progress. They do seem to bond more comfortably with females, however, their foster parent is a woman and they have now warmed up to her husband. Skipper and Gilligan need to be adopted together as they are very bonded and this will help them adjust. These pups are not for first time dog owners, they will probably always be slow to adjust to new scenarios. A confident owner will greatly help push them to success to at least be able to live comfortably in a home environment. These boys need a QUIET home with NO young children in the household. They would be great for someone that works from home or is retired. . These 2 boys had a really rough start to life and they just need a home that understands each of them. We will provide you plenty of training/reading material to help with their transition as well as a reference to a wonderful dog trainer here locally. Gilligan and Skipper will be met offsite at the foster home for the least stressful meet and greet. Please research POSITIVE training techniques before applying to adopt. Charlie is such a friendly and happy dog to everyone, both young and old. He loves to ride in the car and go on walks. Loves to be pet and loved on. He knows quite a few commands and this boy LOVES Frisbee! He adores being active and doing what you are doing. Unfortunately, We recommend that Charlie be the ONLY dog in the household. He has been introduced to small dogs, a baby goat and a cat and he does ok. He was attacked at a dog park as a puppy and has never gotten over his fear of other large dogs. This means as his owner, you must be his advocate and protector. He should never be placed in a situation where he could be scared or reactive. Yes, this will require vigilance and a true commitment to his well-being and Charlie is worth that commitment. We will support you and Charlie every step of the way with verbal and written guidance. He is an amazing dog and deserves an owner who sees his outstanding potential. He has been adopted and returned to our shelter 5 times for a variety of reasons which we would be happy to share with you. PUPDATE: Dobby, now Duke was adopted in 2019 but sadly was returned through no fault of his own. It was a divorce situation and the previous owners told us much about him. We cant say positively what his breed mixture is, but paperwork says he is a Great Dane/Doberman Pinscher mix. He will bark protectively at strangers when he is in the play yard, and he doesn't like cats or children. He is fearful of children and their erratic movements. When we originally met him, he was very sweet and gentle, so we have no idea why he now can be fearful of strangers. Staff love this boy and if you think youv'e got a home where you don't have a lot of people coming and going, and don't mind a dog who is protective of his property with strangers, he is such a lovely dog! Dobby came to us as a transfer from an overcrowded Texas shelter. He's a little over 1 year old and such a sweet dog! He's underweight but we are working on getting him up to a good body condition. He doesn't seem to know basic cues, but he does walk on leash ok. He had a great playgroup with a female dog and it actually made him more lively and confident. We will post more as we get to know him better. Dobby's adoption fee is $200 and includes neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, and custom engraved ID tag. View full description »
